Take Heart SC Clergy:
Today is the observance in honor of St Bruno. Please read the following for your edification.
In 1075 St. Bruno was appointed chancellor of the church of Reims, and had then to give himself especially to the administration of the diocese. Meanwhile the pious Bishop Gervais, friend of St. Bruno, had been succeeded by Manasses de Gournai, who quickly became odious for his impiety and violence. The chancellor and two other canons were commissioned to bear to the papal legate, Hugh of Die, the complaints of the indignant clergy, and at the Council of Autun, 1077, they obtained the suspension of the unworthy prelate. The latter's reply was to raze the houses of his accusers, confiscate their goods, sell their benefices, and appeal to the pope. Bruno then absented himself from Reims for a while, and went probably to Rome to defend the justice of his cause. It was only in 1080 that a definite sentence, confirmed by a rising of the people, compelled Manasses to withdraw and take refuge with the Emperor Henry IV. Free then to choose another bishop, the clergy were on the point of uniting their vote upon the chancellor. He, however, had far different designs in view.

When is the SC Province clergy meeting supposed to be held this weekend?

Moderator's Note: I have now had it confirmed from multiple sources, that the South-Central Diocese of the CEC has withdrawn en masse from the CEC.
May God bless Bp. Myers and the many clergy as they struggle to discern God's will.

In my opinion, this will be huge. I can't see Delmarva and +Lipka in the CEC much longer with Sly, Miles, Fick, Painter, Zampino and now Myers gone, Howard deposed, Costantino deceased. Looks like the new CEC is Adler, Davidson, Bates, Jones, and possibly David Simpson.
But it still ain't over. I know of a couple of churches who still are on the cusp of leaving, regardless of their bishop.
And the MONEY issue will get stronger and stronger. Many of these provinces and the national church have come to depend on a certain level of financial support.

Anybody catch Ken Myers II comments on Wikipedia at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=...&oldid=80925097Also not indicated in the map is that churches in Mexico and Puerto Rico have left with the South-Central. The departure of bishops without physical dioceses also doesn't figure into the map. Also, that the SCD was a realatively populous diocese is not indicated. I have deliberately tried to err on the side of the not-departed. In any map, these sorts of bits of information are missed. I have hoped though, that ultimately, such anomalies balance eachother out.

Brothers and sisters, we are shutting down early today. We were open last weekend -- and I'm not sure that was such a good idea.
For the love of God, we need to remember that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus -- and that all of us (myself included) -- need to make sure that we remember this, especially when our mouse is pointed to the "add reply" button.
I often ask my classes a question something like this: "Do you believe that the Father hears the prayers of the Son?" They answer in the affirmative. I then ask "Do you want to see Jesus return?" Again, they answer in the affirmative. I then point to St. John, chapter 17, and share Jesus' prayer for unity. A prayer which, as of yet, has not been fulfilled. I then ask my classes "Do you think that Jesus is all that eager to return for a broken and divided Church"? Dead silence reigns.
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is when brethren dwell together in unity.
Have a great weekend!

Just some quick points:
1) The previous CEC thread was getting long and cumbersome again, so I have closed it. I will post a link to this new thread.
2) I am asking that everyone be careful in what is said, and in how things are said.
3) I am also asking that discussions be kept on topic. We now have several CEC threads dealing with several specific issues. Let's stay on topic and not cross-post.
4) I would also encourage greater use of the "prayer request" portion of the forum. All of us (myself included) probably need much more time in prayer, and much less time in argument!
Thank you for your attention. We are now open again for discussion.
Blessings,

Moderator's Note:
Up until the last 36 hours or so, this has been a quiet week. However, things seem to be heating up again, so we're going to shut down now until Monday morning.
For those who have wondered where I have been, or who have not gotten prompt e-mail or phone responses, there are two reasons. One -- I was out of town from Thursday through Saturday celebrating my 17th wedding anniversary. Without children! Two -- over the last two weeks, due to a number of circumstances, I found myself temporarily working THREE jobs, putting in up to 14 hour days. Thankfully, that has come to an end, and I'm down to a more managable 50 + hours a week!
Please continue to take advantage of the many areas of this forum which do NOT close down over the weekend.
Blessings,
David
