Happy Saint CS Lewis Day everyone!
On November 22nd, 1963, the noted Christian author and apologist, died, at home, of a heart attack brought on by severe renal insufficiency.
He is buried in the churchyard of his home parish in Headington Quarry, just outside of Oxford.
The gravestone, marking the place where his body awaits the resurrection, is marked thusly:
"Men must endure their going hence".
In one of the only sensible things the Episcopal Church has done in the last number of years, Lewis was added to the Calendar of Saints.
O God of searing truth and surpassing beauty, we give thee thanks for Clive Staples Lewis whose sanctified imagination lighteth fires of faith in young and old alike; Surprise us also with thy joy and draw us into that new and abundant life which is ours in Christ Jesus, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
